You have found one of 16,476 Mercury 2 Door Coupes that was made in 1948. Not only that but this car is quite original with 65,237 miles and is only a 2 owner car. The current owner purchased this car from the estate of the original owner in 2006 out of Colorado and did what was needed to it to get it driving. The original engine was replaced with a solid lifter Ford V-8 Flathead that came out of a 1953. The current owner had the engine rebuilt about 10 years ago and it sat unused for some time. When he purchased this car the engine was in bad shape so he obviously found a good home for the 53 Flathead. The rest of the driveline is original to the car including the 3 speed manual column shift transmission and the properly functioning Columbia rear end with 2 speed axle. The braking system was completely gone through and restored to new condition for obvious safety concerns. The front seat springs were re-bagged and recovered with the original seat covers and the headliner was replaced. There were some previous rust repairs in the rear quarters that got rid of the rust but didn’t do much to help the finish of the original paint. All in all you have found a car that is suitable for daily driving or would be a good candidate for either a Rat or Street Rod. Considering the owner history, the low miles and the originality of this car I would consider this to be an above NADA average car but we have priced it below the average NADA value for a quick turn sale!
